After I wrote Amazon Forest Is Burning for 2 Weeks and We Are Sleeping, thousands of people read and shared it. A lot of people were concerned about the burning of earth’s lungs (al though, it is a myth). Some people believed it is nature’s own way to clean itself. Some found it funny. However, the majority of people asked the same question: what can I do for Amazon forest fire?
We Are Not Powerless
To be honest, I have been asking the same question to myself. It has bugged me to an extent that I feel helpless. However, I have read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I think it has the answer. It was after Gregor Samson awakes to a morning where he turned into a giant insect, he realized how helpless he could become at times. Yet, he keeps trying to leave his bed for work. In the place of doing what is not in his control, he tries to do what he can. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make a large difference. Therefore, you can do these 5 things for Amazon forest fire today.
Sign This Petition
A lawyer name Gabriel from Rio Branco has started a petition on Change.org to stop the Amazon rainforest fire. 2,476,288 have signed it while I am writing this post. They are aiming to make it 3,000,000. Don’t await even a second and sign it. More power to you. Because, the next thing I am going to tell you to do is not as easy as signing a petition.
Switch to Public Transport
This Quora thread suggests that 6.3 million cars were registered in the USA in the year 2016. In short, there are 50 human beings for every 1 car. These numbers become bothersome when we see that the public transport vehicles are still 7 times more. Linda has written for HowStuffWorks that 75% of Carbon monoxide pollution in the US comes from motor vehicles. Even though, US owns 30% of world’s automobiles, it still contributes to 50% of emission from cars.
However, these numbers will not be congenial if you don’t take an action. I say start small. Cover small distances by car. Use a bicycle. I guess you must already be aware of the health benefits of cycling published by BetterHealthChannel.

Get a Plant In Your Home
Deforestation has already managed to increase the global warming. While capitalism keeps destroying the nature, you can do something. ZZ Plants or Zanzibar gem are the best to start with. They are the best for beginners because they are highly low maintenance. And, you don’t have to worry about humidity. Have them placed on your balcony, terrace, bedroom or anywhere that suits you.
Just keep you dogs and cats away from it as it could be poisonous to them.
Or Plant a Tree (Adopt it)
TreeForChange has adopted about 50,000 trees in the past several years. You can adopt a tree in the memory of a loved one. Not only it will immortalize them. it will make them do something for the world.
Once you adopt a tree, you will get a certificate that will look something like this. Climate change is real. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report after evaluating over 195 countries. Excerpt from the report itself, “Human activities are estimated to have caused approximately 1.0°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels, with a likely range of 0.8°C to 1.2°C. Global warming is likely to reach 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate. (high confidence).”
Be Vocal About It and Educate Yourself
What good will sharing a post on social media do? Or, watching a documentary on global warming will. Before you ask these questions, say it aloud: pen is mightier than the sword. It is also mightier than greed. And, everything that could hover dark clouds atop our head. I say the biggest of revolution came because someone had an idea and they wrote it on a piece of paper.
Educate yourself about the issue. Educate people in your home. If someone says global warming is a hoax, have a polite discussion with them. Watch documentaries on global warming. If you are a movie freak, watch chasing ice released in 2012.
We all feel helpless during the crisis. Yet, we stand strong. We always have. Most importantly, we need to stop playing the blame game. Somebody once said change comes from within. I say change comes with you. And, best time to start is right now.
